you might have noticed that I didn't upload any character sprites so far and I'm also not planning to. The reason is that there is a set of character sprites that I have based my tileset on to begin with.

It is made by https://lyaseek.itch.io/ and I can highly recommend it to you :)
They fit the tileset well I think, so go ahead and try using them combined.
